Since the beginning of 2018, China PSF industry has embraced a dramatic change:
PET waste, parings and scraps in the first two months of 2018 totaled 2,562tons, plunging 99.4% compared with 466kt in the same period of 2017. As of now, approved import volume of re-PET from the ten batches of import permits totaled less than 15kt. Considering the total imports of 2.17million tons in 2017, the severe shortage of feedstock presents to recycled polyester industrial players a stunning challenge.
For virgin polyester industry, the solid waste import ban brings benefits. Demand increases, sales warms up and profits go higher. At the same time, the industry witnesses rapid virgin PSF capacity expansion of 1.5million tons/yr, a growth never seen in 13 years.
